Postheat is refer to the maintenance of preheat after the weld has been completed, to allow increased rates of hydrogen escape from the weld to occur. The post-heat temperature may be the same as, or greater than, the original preheat temperature specified. Postheat is utilized to decrease the potential for hydrogen induced cracking. Typically, the post-heating temperature is maintained at 250oC for one hour per inch of thickness before cooled down to room temperature.
